Eleven UNT students will attend this year’s Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference after receiving awards that cover registration and meals and lodging during the conference. The Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference is held every summer by UNT's Frank W. Mayborn Graduate Institute of Journalism.

Jon Savage, a recent UNT graduate, is one of only 20 students in the nation to receive the 2013 Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts Award for $150,000 to attend graduate school. Savage was a member of both the McNair Scholars Program and the Honors College while he was at UNT.

Jenny Wakefield, a doctoral student at UNT, has received one of two 2013 Joseph E. Pryor Graduate Fellowships from Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. Students must be ranked academically among the top 10 percent of their graduating classes to be considered for membership at their institutions’ Alpha Chi chapters.

Directors of archives, libraries, museums, historical societies may apply for project awards valued at $200 to $1,000 to preserve their collections via digitization and place them on UNT's Portal to Texas History.

Dr. Daniel Stewart, assistant professor of criminal justice will join teaching and research professionals for a 10-day course on terrorism studies at Tel Aviv University in Israel.

UNT Libraries will hold a symposium that will feature speakers discussing institutional open access policies, which make university faculty members’ published scholarly research available to the public for free. UNT was the first public college or university in Texas to adopt an open access policy.

UNT has signed an agreement with Barnes & Noble College as the new operator for the UNT Bookstore. Barnes & Noble College is set to take over operations of the university bookstore on Aug. 8.
