UNT will host a launch event for the UNT Natural Dye Garden at 6 p.m. Oct. 9. The event will include demonstrations from 6 to 8 p.m. hosted by UNT art students on how to create and use natural dyes.

The Hunger Games Learning Community is designed for freshmen who have not chosen their majors. The community consists of several core curriculum courses, which are required for all students earning bachelor’s degrees, with the courses organized around the theme of food and hunger. For the fall 2013 semester, the community includes History 2610: U.S. History to 1865; Sociology 1510: Introduction to Sociology and UGST 1000: First Year Seminar.

Dr. Gabriel Carranza, assistant vice provost for global engagement and adjunct research professor in UNT's Department of Biological Sciences, was selected for a Fulbright Specialist Project at Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa in Brazil. He will be working to build a university-alumni relationship program.

The 31st Annual Alfred and Johanna Hurley Military History Seminar at UNT will feature historians and authors Thurston Clarke and David E. Kaiser as guest speakers. Attendees will learn more about the Kennedy assassination as well as its serious national security implications.

UNT has opened an office in Bangkok to provide a base for recruiting throughout Southeast Asia as well as serve as a focal point for alumni. Plans for the office were announced in December 2012 by UNT President  V. Lane Rawlins during a visit to Thailand.

“The Eagle Feather,” the UNT Honors College’s online publication, will be celebrated Oct. 1 at a reception for its 10th issue. The reception will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Forum on the first floor of UNT’s Willis Library.

UNT set an enrollment record for fall 2013 with 36,221 students, an increase of 385 compared to the fall 2012’s unofficial headcount at the fall census date (12th day of classes).

Daymond John, founder of the fashion brand FUBU and a cast member of ABC’s “Shark Tank,” will speak about entrepreneurship at UNT's Murphy Center for Entrepreneurship’s BDO USA, LLP Leadership Luncheon Nov. 8. UNT alumnus Norm Miller, chairman of Interstate Batteries, will receive the annual Murphy Award, given to an entrepreneur for a lifetime of achievement in business.
