Diane Guerrero—an actress best known for her work on “Orange is the New Black” and “Jane the Virgin”— will speak at the University of North Texas on April 26 (Wednesday) as part of the university’s Distinguished Lecture Series.

The University of North Texas theatre department will take audiences back in time to the sexual revolution and anti-war movement of the late 1960s with its production of “Hair” April 27-30. The musical focuses on a “tribe” of young people who resist the war and live a bohemian lifestyle filled with sexual freedom and pacifist protest.

Baolong Zhang, Graduate Artist Certificate student at the University of North Texas College of Music, has earned first prize in the 2017 Virginia Waring International Piano Concerto Competition, held March 26-April 2. He earned the prestigious honor – and a $10,000 prize – for his performance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3.

Prahlad Singh Tipanya has been called one of the most compelling folk voices in India today – and he’s bringing his unique style of music to the University of North Texas College of Music Recital Hall, 415 S. Ave. C in Denton, at 8 p.m. April 11. Tipanya, an internationally acclaimed folk musician from the small village of Lunyakhedi in Ujjain District, Madhya Pradesh, sings and embodies the poetry of the15th-century mystic saint Kabir.

Helping young children develop an inherent musical understanding has long been the purpose of the UNT College of Music's Early Childhood Music Program. This fall, the University of North Texas College of Music will continue building upon that goal by offering music classes for children from birth to five years old.
