DENTON (UNT), Texas - A composition by University of North Texas College of Music student Sam Mikulewicz has been selected for performance at the Sound of Dragon Chinese Music Festival in Vancouver on April 24. The piece, titled “Himawari,” will be played by The Sound of Dragon Ensemble, the festival’s house band. Mikulewicz is the only American composer or performer featured at the festival. DENTON (UNT), Texas -- University of North Texas College of Music doctoral student Laura Pillman won first place in the prestigious Coeur d'Alene Symphony National Young Artist Competition. Pillman, who is a flute performance major, received a trophy and will perform with the Coeur d'Alene Symphony Orchestra on March 11 and 12 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Harper Lee, who received a Pulitzer Prize and fame for To Kill a Mockingbird, her first novel, has died at age 89. Lee’s only other work, Go Set a Watchman, was published last year as the sequel to Mockingbird, more than 50 years later.
