DENTON (UNT), Texas -- The University of North Texas College of Music's One O'Clock Lab Band, directed by Jay Saunders, will perform with world-renowned pianist and composer Danilo Pérez at 8 p.m. on March 3 as part of the Mary Jo and V. Lane Rawlins Fine Arts Series and this year's Glenn E. Gomez International Artists Endowment for Jazz Studies visit.

"We're very excited to have Danilo Pérez as our guest for the Gomez Endowment residency," said John Murphy, chair of the Division of Jazz Studies. "His brilliantly inventive work as a pianist draws on his deep background in jazz, classical, and Latin American music. In addition to leading his own groups, he has collaborated with Dizzy Gillespie and Wynton Marsalis, and has been a member of the Wayne Shorter Quartet since 2000."

Pérez will be a featured soloist with the One O'Clock Lab Band for the first half of the concert. His band Panama 500 will be invited to the stage for the second half of the show.
"This concert will feature Mr. Pérez playing some of his most recent compositions with the One O'Clock Lab Band and performing music from his Panama 500 project with Roni Eytan, harmonica; Jared Henderson, bass; and Adam Cruz, drums," Murphy said. "UNT student Brian Stark has arranged one piece for both groups."

The performance will be held in the Margot and Bill Winspear Performance Hall at the Murchison Performing Arts Center, 2100 I35E Frontage Road, Denton. Tickets cost $15 for the public, $10 for UNT faculty, staff and Alumni Association members, and are free for UNT students. Students can pick up their free ticket at the Murchison Performing Arts Center box office. The public can purchase tickets through the MPAC box office at 940-369-7802 or visit the center's website.
