The University of North Texas and Denton County Friends of the Family will host a variety of events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month throughout October. The events aim to raise awareness and bring together those on campus and throughout the community who want to end relationship violence.

University of North Texas Libraries will help showcase local creativity and inventiveness on Oct. 8 at the second annual Denton Mini Maker Faire, a family friendly event that offers a variety of activities ranging from creative, hands-on art projects and demonstrations to innovative technological workshops.

UNT on the Square and the University of North Texas College of Music will offer music Tuesdays and Thursdays in October in response to the great number of musicians requesting performance times at the venue located on Denton’s historic courthouse square. UNT students, faculty and alumni will perform a range of styles from jazz to classical music.

A $1.5 million commitment from a University of North Texas alumnus has established an endowed chair in Accounting at the UNT College of Business.

Ram Dantu

University of North Texas professor Ram Dantu has received a D Magazine CIO/CTO Chief Information Officer/Chief Technology Officer award. Dantu was named the 2016 “Outstanding Technology Advocate” by the magazine. He was the only person in academia who was even nominated.

Roomful of Teeth

Roomful of Teeth, a Grammy Award-winning vocal ensemble, will serve as the 2016-17 artist-in-residence for the University of North Texas.


UNT Ph.D. candidate Jessica Beckham has spent years researching Texas bumblebee populations and observing how urban green spaces and community gardens are preserving different species.
