Pamela Padilla, an associate professor of biology at the University of North Texas and Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies in the new College of Science has spent her career studying science, doing research in the field of genetics and teaching. Her efforts have brought her great success with everything from awards to publications. Now she has a new honor that comes with a new career focus. She was recently accepted to an advanced leadership institute and wants to help bring new leadership skills to her fellow scientists.

Rhonda Christensen, a research professor in the Department of Learning Technologies in the College of Information at the University of North Texas, has been awarded a Fulbright Senior Specialist Scholarship.

The sleek and stylish models strutting down the catwalk May 6 will be displaying the culmination of University of North Texas’ seniors hard work and dedication. ArtWear, the annual juried exhibition at the UNT Union Ballroom, located at 1155 Union Circle, Denton, is showcasing the work of 32 students from the College of Visual Arts and Design fashion design program this year.

It has been 70 years since the University of North Texas launched the now-acclaimed Jazz Studies program – the first of its kind in the U.S. In honor of this milestone, the College of Music will be releasing Legacy — Neil Slater at North Texas – a four-CD box set – at the Denton Arts & Jazz Festival. Along with hundreds of archival photos spanning the career of Slater, Professor Emeritus and the longest-tenured director of the One O’Clock Lab Band, the box set includes a 160-page booklet containing notes written by dozens of former band members and colleagues.

UNT Jazz Singers release new CD titled “Groovin’ Hard.”

A newly released CD by the award-winning University of North Texas College of Music’s Jazz Singers weaves together traditional and contemporary jazz, with rock, big band swing and even Brazilian flare. Titled “Groovin’ Hard,” the CD includes nine pieces, five of which were arranged by current or former UNT students. All of the pieces – save one – were arranged specifically for the group.

Elizabeth Murakami, professor and director of programs in Educational Leadership in the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M-San Antonio, has been selected to serve as the Mike Moses Endowed Chair in Educational Leadership at the University of North Texas.
