DENTON (UNT), Texas — The University of North Texas expects to honor more than 5,000 students during fall commencement for the completion of bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees during the summer and fall semesters.

The university will host 10 separate ceremonies Dec. 12-14 (Friday-Sunday) on the UNT campus in the Coliseum, 600 Avenue D, and in the Murchison Performing Arts Center, 2100 N. I-35 East in Denton.

Betty Bajika, who is earning her Master of Science in Health Informatics, is part of the UNT PUSH program that serves students who experienced foster care and a dedicated member of the cross country and track teams. She moved to the United States from the Democratic Republic of the Congo at age nine, learned English and navigated the foster care system in Texas, ultimately earning her master’s degree while consistently appearing on the dean’s and president’s lists. She credits her faith for her perseverance and volunteers mentoring children in schools and helping at food banks.

Vanessa Bristow, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical and Energy Engineering and Mathematics with a minor in physics, started at UNT as a physics student before switching to mechanical engineering. She became a research leader in UNT’s laser labs, co-authored a paper on lunar dust simulants and interns at NASA Johnson Space Center, presenting research at national conferences. Her research explores applications of Martian dust for ceramics, combining science with creativity.

Elliott Stockdale, who is earning a Master of Business Administration in Sport Entertainment Management, specializes in audio description commentary for visually impaired audiences, covering more than 250 professional soccer games, including FIFA World Cup and Premier League matches. Through UNT’s Sports Innovation Space, he launched a company bringing this accessibility tool to U.S. sports and connects with industry leaders to grow his impact.
