Four UNT TAMS students named 2019 Goldwater Scholars
Four students from the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science at the University of North Texas have been named 2019 Goldwater Scholars.
UNT leads Texas universities in the number of Goldwater Scholars in math, science and engineering, with a total of 64 scholars named since 1996. This year, no other university in the state of Texas — public or private — had four scholars.

DENTON (UNT), Texas—The University of North Texas Departments of Studio Art, Geography and the Environment, and Biological Sciences are exploring how birds can offer insight on air pollution.
The two-year study is one of the first to use bird feathers as biomonitors of soot in the air. Biomonitors allow scientists to determine both the amount and the potential effects of a substance accumulated in or on an organism. Denton, TX (May 2, 2019) – The City of Denton and the University of North Texas (UNT) are collaborating to conduct a full-scale disaster exercise on Friday, May 3, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at UNT Apogee Stadium and Discovery Park. The exercise – named “Operation Thunderstruck” – will simulate a large-scale disaster to test the response capabilities and emergency operations of first responders, hospitals, and other agencies.
