UNT Creative Writing's fall Visiting Writers Series begins Oct. 15

DENTON (UNT), Texas – Three renowned writers will visit the University of North Texas as part of the Visiting Writers Series sponsored by UNT's Creative Writing Program. The series brings nationally and internationally renowned writers to UNT's campus every semester to give book readings and hold Q&A's.

All events in the Visiting Writers Series are free.

The writers scheduled to give readings and hold Q&A's for the 2015 fall series include:

  • October 15 (Thursday) – Kathleen Graber, poet and author of two collections of poetry, including "The Eternal City," which was a finalist for the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award, and the winner of the Library of Virginia Literary Award for Poetry. Graber is currently director of the Creative Writing Program at Virginia Commonwealth University.
    • Q&A: 4 p.m. in the Forum of UNT's Willis Library, 1506 W. Highland St.
    • Reading: 8 p.m. in Room 116 of Sage Hall, 1167 Union Circle
  • October 28 (Thursday) – Claire Vaye Watkins, fiction writer and essayist whose collection of short stories, "Battleborn," won the Story Prize, the Dylan Thomas Prize, New York Public Library's Young Lions Fiction Award and others. Her novel, "Gold Fame Citrus," is set for a Sept. 29 release date. Watkins is also the co-director of the Mojave School, a free creative writing workshop for teenagers in rural Nevada.
    • Q&A: 4:30 p.m. in Room 203 of Curry Hall, 200 Avenue A
    • Reading: 8 p.m. in Room 116 of Sage Hall, 1167 Union Circle
  • November 10 (Tuesday) – Jill Talbot, essayist and author of "The Way We Weren't: A Memoir" and "Loaded: Women and Addiction." Her essays have appeared in such journals as "Brevity," "DIAGRAM," "Ecotone," "The Normal School," "Passages North," "The Paris Review Daily," "The Pinch" and "Seneca Review."Her work is listed in the Notable Essays section of "Best American Essays 2014."

UNT Barnes and Nobles will be at every evening reading and will have copies of the featured writer's books for sale.
