DENTON (UNT), Texas -- Gen. Wesley Clark, former NATO supreme allied commander, presidential candidate and author, will speak Feb. 4 (Wednesday) as part of the University of North Texas Distinguished Lecture Series.
Clark will speak at 8 p.m. Feb. 4 in UNT's Auditorium Building, at 1401 W. Hickory St. Tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased online.
In 38 years of service in the U.S. Army, Clark rose to the rank of four-star general as NATO's supreme allied commander. Since retiring from the military in 2000, Clark has taken on roles including investment banker, alternative energy leader, author, network television military analyst and businessman.
Clark graduated first in his class at West Point and completed degrees in philosophy, politics and economics from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. While serving in Vietnam, he commanded an infantry company in combat, where he was severely wounded and evacuated home on a stretcher. His awards include the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Silver star, Bronze star, Purple Heart, honorary knighthoods from the British and Dutch governments and more.
In Clark's latest book, Don't Wait for the Next War, he identified a national strategy to tackle challenges including terrorism, cybersecurity, financial system vulnerabilities, the rise of China and climate change.
The Distinguished Lecture Series program introduces the UNT community to the excellence of world-class speakers whose messages enhance student learning outside the classroom. Previous speakers include President George W. Bush, Condoleezza Rice, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., John Legend, Bill Nye, George Takei, Steve Wozniak, Rainn Wilson and Vicente Fox.
