DENTON (UNT), Texas -- Brenda Sims, director of the University of North Texas New College at Frisco, has been named a Fellow for the Association of Teachers of Technical Writing. The title is only granted to educators who have established national reputations based on their teaching, scholarship or academic administration.

"This is a big honor for me and for UNT," Sims said. "I owe the selection to UNT administrators who provided me the opportunity to build a technical communication program."

Before serving as director of the UNT New College at Frisco, Sims was the Founding Chair of UNT's Department of Technical Communication. Sims serves as the executive secretary of the ATTW, and has authored three books and articles on technical communication, cross-cultural communication, and ethics.

Sims says she is grateful to have been awarded this designation.

"I am humbled to be named a fellow, as many fellows are scholars and professionals whom I admire," Sims said. "These people work at respected universities across the U.S. and Canada."
Sims will receive her award April 6 at the 19th annual ATTW Conference in Houston.
