DENTON, Texas (UNT) – Denton ISD students from kindergarten to the 12th grade will see their artwork displayed during the exhibition On the Square, Outside the Box: Denton ISD's District Art Show that runs from May 14 (Thursday) to May 22 (Friday) at UNT on the Square.

UNT on the Square is hosting the exhibit, in which art teachers from the district's 34 schools select two pieces of art from their campus to show, for the second consecutive year.

"It's really about the students being recognized for the artwork," said Kelley McGee, the show's coordinator and the art teacher at Adkins Elementary School. "It's a beautiful space and we're really lucky to have a partnership with UNT on the Square."

A reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. May 15 (Friday). Last year's show brought an enthusiastic response, with about 300 students and their family members and teachers attending the reception.

"We are pleased that UNT on the Square is able to reach into our community and recognize our dedicated DISD art teachers and their students," said Herbert Holl, director of the Institute for the Advancement of the Arts, the arm of the University of North Texas that promotes artistic and creative expression and runs UNT on the Square.
