Art and music come together for Thursday Night Music Series at UNT on the Square

What: Thursday Night Music Series at UNT on the Square, presented by the University of North Texas Institute for the Advancement of the Arts and the UNT College of Music

When: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. (with intermission) every Thursday night during March and April (March 5, 12, 19, 26 and April 2, 9, 16, 23, 30)

DENTON (UNT), Texas – The Thursday Night Music Series at UNT on the Square art gallery returns for the spring 2015 season, providing an informal performance setting that allows listeners to come and go as they wish. The series begins March 5 and runs through April 30.

  • March 5 - 7 p.m. Jazz Sextet, 8 p.m. North Texas Collaborative Pianists
  • March 12 – 7 p.m. Jazz Quintet with vocals, 8 p.m. Jazz Trio with vocals
  • March 19 – 7 p.m. Rice Collective, 8 p.m. Ben Holt Septet
  • March 26 – 7 p.m. ViolUNTi, 8 p.m. Composer's Forum of North Texas
  • April 2 – 7 p.m. Nova Ensemble, 8 p.m. Jazz Guitar Duo
  • April 9 – 7 p.m. UNT Classical Guitar Ensemble, 8 p.m. Jazz Vocalists
  • April 16 – 7-9 p.m. Cello Bellissimo
  • April 23 – 7 p.m. Song Performance Class, 8 p.m. Marimba Soloists
  • April 30 – 7 p.m. Voice Class, 8 p.m. Jazz Guitar Ensemble

This series allows visitors to enjoy a variety of music while viewing the art at the gallery. UNT on the Square exhibits that will be on view during the Thursday Night Music Series include:

  • "The Lazarus Project" Photographic Images – This exhibition, on display March 2 – 27, features photographs taken in Poland, Ukraine, Moldova and Bosnia by Montreal-based photographer Velibor Božović that were featured in the critically acclaimed novel The Lazarus Project by IAA artist in residence Aleksandar Hemon. Hemon is scheduled to be at UNT during the last week of February and the first week of March.
  • UNT Painting and Drawing Show – The show displays works from graduate students in the College of Visual Arts and Design, one of the most comprehensive art programs in the nation, and will be available for viewing April 3-30.

Presented by the UNT Institute for the Advancement of the Arts and the College of Music, the concerts feature UNT students, faculty members, alumni and invited guest artists performing jazz, classical and other genres of music.
