Co-authored a book, The Professional Counselor: Competencies, Performance Guidelines, and Assessment (2nd.ed.). Recent research includes near-death experiences and spiritual emergencies. Is a member of the American Counseling Association, the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists, the Association for Spiritual, Ethical, Religious, and Values Issues in Counseling, among other organizations. Holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Illinois and a master's degree and a doctorate in counselor education from Northern Illinois University.
