Hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes – it seems almost every week a deadly natural disaster is reported in the news. Now researchers at the University of North Texas are working to help create walls that will stand up to those disasters, with hopes of saving homes and lives.

The Arbor Day Foundation has recognized the University of North Texas as a 2016 Tree Campus USA University for its continuing dedication to campus forestry management and environmental stewardship.

The award from the American Association of Geographers recognizes excellence in instruction and student mentorship, intercultural understanding and participation of under-represented groups in geography and successful student placement with employers, among other criteria.
