DENTON (UNT), Texas—University of North Texas College of Visual Arts and Design’s Annette Lawrence, professor in the Department of Studio Art, was awarded a highly prestigious MacDowell Colony Fellowship for Summer Residencies. Lawrence is among 84 artists from around the world chosen for the honor. Fellows are provided a private studio for a period of up to eight weeks, accommodations and meals in an inspiring environment where they can be free to focus on their art and produce enduring works of the imagination.

“I feel very fortunate to be among the artists chosen for MacDowell fellowships this year,” said Lawrence. “I have an ongoing drawing project that I hope to complete while at MacDowell. The time to focus on my work will have a lasting impact and I'm looking forward to conversations with the other artists who will be in residence. The importance of having this level of support is immeasurable.”

 Lawrence’s work has been widely exhibited and held in museums and private collections including The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, The Dallas Museum of Art, The Rachofsky Collection, ArtPace Center for Contemporary Art, The Blanton Museum, American Airlines and the Dallas Cowboys headquarters. She has participated in artist-in-residence programs in Houston; Skowhegan, Maine; Johannesburg, South Africa; Tanera Mor, Scotland and Melbourne, Australia.

Lawrence and the other award recipients representing seven artistic disciplines will soon join the ranks of notable MacDowell Fellows including novelist James Baldwin, composer Leonard Bernstein, composer Aaron Copland, composer Meredith Monk and playwright Thornton Wilder.
