DENTON (UNT), Texas – April Barnes has been named the associate vice president for budget and analytics at the University of North Texas.

“April’s professional experience paired with her skills as an effective organizer, strategic planner and collaborative partner make her a great asset to the university,” said Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration Bob Brown. “She will lead the Budget Office team in their strategic planning and financial management tasks, and in supporting our faculty and staff with their budgeting needs.”

Barnes is a familiar face within the UNT System, coming to UNT from her position as associate vice president for budget and planning at UNT-Dallas. While in that position, she managed budget duties while building service-focused relationships across the university and supporting the university leadership.

She started her position at UNT on June 20.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to serve at UNT,” said Barnes. “Collaborating with our faculty and staff will be the most rewarding part of this job. I’m passionate about equipping our customers with useful budget tools and providing extraordinary customer service so that they understand the university’s financial priorities and how they can help UNT achieve those goals.”

Barnes had been at UNT-Dallas since July 2015. Prior to her associate vice president position at UNT-Dallas, she was the institution’s assistant vice president for budget and planning and, prior to that, the director of finance and administration. Her experience in higher education also includes positions at Texas A&M Commerce and at Universities Center at Dallas.

She is a CPA with a Bachelor’s degree in communication and a Master of Science degree in accounting from Texas A&M Commerce.
