Wednesday Night Jazz returns to UNT for the spring season on Jan. 28 with One O'Clock Lab Band

DENTON (UNT), Texas -- The Wednesday Night Jazz performances will continue this spring at the University of North Texas highlighting the wide variety of jazz ensembles in the College of Music. Concerts are held from 9 p.m. to midnight Wednesdays in the Gateway Center Ballroom, 801 North Texas Blvd., Denton. Cost is $5 for the One O'Clock performance on Jan. 28 and $4 for all other performances. Payment taken at the door.

  • Feb. 18--Seven O'Clock Lab Band, directed by Keith Karns; Six O'Clock Lab Band, directed by Joakim Toftgård
  • Feb. 25--Nine O'Clock Lab Band, directed by Daniel Matthews; Eight O'Clock Lab Band, directed by Patrick Carr
  • March 11--Zebras, directed by Sergio Pamies; Latin Jazz Lab, directed by Jose Aponte
  • March 25--U-Tubes, directed by Julie Gray; Jazz Repertory Ensemble, directed by Chris McGuire

The six-time Grammy-nominated UNT One O'Clock Lab Band – the premiere ensemble of UNT'sJazz Studies program in the College of Music – has performed and toured throughout the world, including Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Switzerland, Thailand and The Netherlands. UNT offered the nation's first bachelor's degree program in jazz studies in the 1946-47 academic year, and the university's jazz studies program is consistently rated among the nation's best.
