DENTON (UNT), Texas -- UNT on the Square will host the College of Visual Arts and Design Alumni Showcase Oct. 9 – 28. This is the first ever CVAD Alumni show, and artists from around the country will be featured in it.

An opening reception will be held from 7 – 9 p.m. on Oct. 9 (Friday).

The exhibition is free and open to the public.

The artists featured in the exhibit come from cities all over the country, including New York, Los Angeles, Seattle and Houston. They will represent 12 different CVAD departments.

Jessica Ingle, owner and director of Ingle Art Consultancy, is curating the exhibition. She said the college's alumni have had a large impact on the art world.

"CVAD alumni are shaping not just the DFW metroplex, but the broader, national landscape of the art world," Ingle said.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area has experienced a great amount of economic growth in past years, Ingle said. Industries like technology, manufacturing and real estate are quickly growing. But they're not the only ones.

"The DFW metroplex is beginning to emerge as a nexus in the art world, with Dallas collectors, critics, and institutions turning their attention inward," Ingle said. "UNT is a huge contributor to that."

Ingle, who is an alumna of UNT herself, said she's conducting studio tours now. She said she's looking for work that comments on contemporary culture.

"The works in this exhibition reflect our postmodern condition by addressing universal ideas present in our contemporary culture," Ingle said. "These artists not only acknowledge the presence of these societal narratives, but also analyze and often reject their importance."

She's also looking for works that show the creative talent of as many departments in the College of Visual Arts and Design as possible

"This exhibition will show the breadth of CVAD alumni and their capabilities," Ingle said. "I'm excited to show each of these artists."
