DENTON (UNT), Texas -- Experts from across the country will discuss best practices for preventing sexual violence on campus, legal decision making, issues related to student debt and other topics at the 18th annual Texas Higher Education Law Conference at the University of North Texas.
Considered the premier conference on higher education law in the state, the two-day event will take place March 24 and 25 (Monday and Tuesday) in UNT's Gateway Center, 801 North Texas Blvd. For information about the conference and to register, go to http://www.coe.unt.edu/HELawConference. The conference is aimed toward public and private college and university professionals and attorneys working on issues related to higher education.
This year's topics include:

• Bad Decision Making: The Heart of Most Legal Consequences -- Presented by Richard Rafes, founder of the UNT Texas Higher Education Law Conference and now interim dean of the School of Health Professions and Education at Utica College
• Higher Education and the Courts: Legal Issues Involving Faculty, Students and Immigrants -- Presented by Michael A. Olivas, William B. Bates Distinguished Chair of Law and director of the Institute of Higher Education Law & Governance at the University of Houston and author of Suing Alma Mater: Higher Education and the Courts
• Violence Against Women Act/Sexual Violence Elimination Act -- Presented by W. Scott Lewis, a partner in The National Center for Higher Education Risk Management
• Integrating Student Voices into Campus Safety Efforts -- Presented by Kim Novak, a national consultant and advocate for campus safety, hazing prevention, and student risk management
• From Idea to Implementation: Practical Steps for Executing Your Institution's Child Sex Abuse Prevention Plan -- Presented by Aaron Lundberg and Candace Collins of Praesidium, Inc.
