DENTON (UNT), Texas -- Visiting Printmaker Nicole Hand will collaborate with University of North Texas students this October and produce prints for the inaugural subscription program for UNT's Print Research Institute of North Texas (P.R.I.N.T Press).

Hand will be at P.R.I.N.T Press from Oct. 20 to 24 to work with students. The open house will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 23 (Thursday) at 1120 West Oak St., Denton. Hand also will give a presentation about her work as a part of the Core Drawing lecture series from noon to 12:50 p.m. on Oct. 20 (Monday) in Sage Hall room 116, 1167 Union Circle, Denton. The open house and lecture are free and open to the public.

Hand is a professor of art at Murray State University in Kentucky, where she teaches printmaking, bookbinding and drawing. She has given lectures and workshops at more than 30 venues. In her work, Hand examines ideas, beliefs and skills passed from one generation to the next by building symbolic, layered compositions with a diverse range of printmaking techniques.

"Inaugural visiting printmaker Nicole Hand is renowned for her artwork," said Lari Gibbons, director of P.R.I.N.T Press and professor of art at UNT. "Working first-hand with visiting printmakers is always illuminating and rewarding. For me, one of the most fulfilling parts of the experience is creating opportunities for students and the larger public community to connect with a professional artist through our programming."

For the first time at P.R.I.N.T Press, Hand will work with students and faculty to complete a limited edition of hand-pulled fine art prints, including 10 impressions reserved for subscription members. These designs will be available through an annual subscription-based publication series that highlights visiting artists.

"Working with faculty on visiting artist projects enables P.R.I.N.T to be a conduit for building tangible connections between our programs and increasing educational and professional opportunities for our students," Gibbons explained. "Contributors to the program will be advancing time-honored traditions and new creative research in the field of collaborative fine art printmaking."

The program was created to expand the roster of artists, expose students to additional areas of expertise and enrich the educational mission of printmaking programs at UNT. The series will take place every fall.
