DENTON (UNT), Texas -- Students in the communication design program at UNT's College of Visual Arts and Design won top honors in two major advertising competitions – the Dallas and Fort Worth American Advertising Awards.

Known as the Addys, the awards are the advertising industry's largest competition, attracting more than 50,000 entries every year in local affiliates. The mission of the competition is to recognize and reward creative excellence in the art of advertising. Work entered at the local level can move up to the regional and national level judging.

Shelby Tamura, a junior in communications design from Coppell, who won Best of Show and Gold in the Fort Worth contest's student category, said, "I was so thankful to have my work recognized. It was a great opportunity and honor to be exposed to some of the professional agencies. The UNT Communication Design program has a great reputation for preparing aspiring designers to be conceptual thinkers and hard-working students, and that discipline definitely helped me succeed at this year's Addy Awards."
