DENTON (UNT), Texas — The University of North Texas Student Money Management Center has earned the AFCPE® (Association of Financial Planning and Counseling Planning Education)® Outstanding Financial Counseling and Planning Center Award for 2013.

The national award is given to a center that has demonstrated its effectiveness in the community, responded to needs of its target audience and delivered materials appropriate for its audience.

UNT’s Student Money Management Center, which opened in Fall 2005, provides personal consultations, workshops, seminars, presentations, online resources and emergency-based loan programs to help students increase their money management skills and knowledge. The center will be recognized at the association’s annual conference Nov. 22 in Greenville, S.C.

“This award brings national attention not only to our center, but also to UNT and state,” said Paul Goebel, senior director of the Student Money Management Center. “Having our efforts to help UNT students recognized on the national level is extremely humbling and gratifying. Most importantly, this award recognizes that every time a student succeeds, our team succeeds.”

Media: UNT students will learn about budgeting — while facing unexpected financial situations — in “The Walking Debt: Halloween Edition” from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 30 (Wednesday) in the Business Leadership Building, Room 140. A peer mentor from the center will be in costume. Media are welcome to attend.
