DENTON (UNT), Texas -- The University of North Texas Opera and Symphony Orchestra will present Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, “The Marriage of Figaro,” a comedic tale of love, infidelity and forgiveness.

Directed by David Ward and conducted by Stephen Dubberly, the performances will take place at 8 p.m. Nov. 4 and 11 and 3 p.m. Nov. 6 and 13 in the Lyric Theater at the Murchison Performing Arts Center.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest operas of all time, “The Marriage of Figaro” follows a single day of madness in the lives of Count Almaviva, his wife Rosine and their servants, Figaro and Susanna, who want to marry.

“‛The Marriage of Figaro’ is a romantic comedy masterpiece that examines love and the often-contentious relationship existing between classes in the 1700s,” said Dubberly, music director of UNT Opera. “The opera is one of the most frequently performed in the world.”

UNT Opera and Symphony Orchestra will perform the comedy in Italian with English supertitles. The cast includes 30 principal singers, plus the chorus and orchestra, and each show will include an “In the Know” lecture 45 minutes before the performance.

“Opera is the ultimate team sport, and ‛The Marriage of Figaro’ is the perfect example of that,” Dubberly said. “This is a very demanding piece that requires a deep bench of talent, which we are fortunate to have at UNT.”

Tickets are $15-$35 for adults, with discounts available for senior citizens; students; children; UNT faculty, staff and retirees; and groups of 10 or more. The $35 tickets include dessert and wine. Purchase tickets online or by calling the Murchison Box Office at 940-369-7802.
