DENTON (UNT), Texas - The University of North Texas is one of only a handful of area universities to screen Leonardo DiCaprio’s latest environmental documentary Before the Flood. The Radio, Television and Film Department is presenting the film, which outlines dramatic changes happening around the world due to climate change, at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 (Saturday) in the RTFP Building, room 184, located at 1179 Union Circle. In the documentary, DiCaprio travels to five continents, speaking with scientists, world leaders, activists and residents, to get a well-rounded view of environmental challenges and the actions individuals can take to prevent future damage.

Marielena Resendiz-Carpanzano, who is an event coordinator for the Department of Media Arts, said this is a great opportunity for the community to come together on an issue that has impacted in Denton.

“I’m extremely happy I was able to coordinate this screening for the UNT and Denton communities,” Resendiz-Carpanzano said. “It’s a great opportunity for us to screen a documentary of this magnitude. We’ve had students in the past who have produced work about the environment and have made an impact in the community, tackling such issues as Denton residents voting to ban fracking.”

The Before the Flood screening is free and open to the public. For more information, visit http://mediaarts.unt.edu/news/flood-screening or call 940-565-2537.
