DENTON (UNT), Texas – The University of North Texas has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as one of the leading institutions for Hispanics in the United States. UNT is included in the May issue of The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education magazine.

For years, UNT has consistently earned a place in the Top 100 Colleges for Hispanics list by Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education, the nation's sole Hispanic publication in higher education. Each year the magazine lists the top 100 universities in the U.S. for awarding the most degrees to Hispanics.

According to the report, UNT ranked 34th in undergraduate degrees. UNT awarded 2,000 degrees, or 16 percent of its total annual undergraduate degrees, to Hispanics. For graduate degrees, UNT ranked 44th. UNT awarded 1,586 degrees, or 11 percent of total annual graduate degrees, to Hispanics.

The data was compiled by the National Center for Education Statistics and is based on numbers from 2014.

Jean Keller, interim vice president for UNT's Division of Institutional Equity and Diversity, said UNT "is committed to offer the higher quality of academic and extracurricular services to assure success of its Hispanic students and all of its students."

"Several new initiatives are in place to make UNT even more welcoming to and support completion for Hispanic students," she said.
