DENTON (UNT), Texas -- This fall semester, two documentaries will be shown at the University of North Texas as a part of the Doc Spot Film Series offered by the UNT Media Library.

The documentary showings are free and open to the public.

"School's Out: Lessons from a Forest Kindergarten" — 4 p.m. Oct. 7 (Tuesday) Media Library in Room 111C of Chilton Hall, 410 S. Avenue C.

Released in 2003, "School’s Out" follows a year in the life of a child who goes to kindergarten in the woods of Langnau am Albis, a suburb of Zurich, Switzerland. The film discusses what children between the ages of 4 and 7 really need.

Following the film, Judi Bradetich, a lecturer in the UNT Department of Educational Psychology, will hold a question-and-answer session.

"Valentine Road" — 4 p.m. Nov. 20 (Thursday), Forum on the first floor of UNT's Willis Library, 1506 W. Highland St.

"Valentine Road," which first aired on HBO in October 2013, will be shown in conjunction with Transgender Day of Remembrance. The film recounts the fatal February 2008 shooting of eighth-grade student Larry King, who dressed effeminately, by his classmate Brandon McInerney during his first-period class. The film connects the human wreckage of King's and McInerney's troubled lives —both of whom were physically abused and from broken homes, and were searching for a sense of belonging.

Following the film, a panel of transgendered students, faculty, staff and community members will speak about their reactions to the film and their own experiences, and answer questions from the audience.
