A peaceful rally in downtown Dallas that was organized by the Black Lives Matter movement ended in violence Thursday evening after a sniper attack left five law enforcement officials dead and other law enforcement officials and civilians injured.

The following University of North Texas faculty members are available for media interviews about the shooting.

Meredith Clark, assistant professor in the University of North Texas' Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism, will provide background on the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter and Black Twitter -- a social media identity that focuses on issues related to the African American community. She is traveling today until 2 p.m. CDT, but may be reached at 850-559-1839 or on Twitter at @meredithclark.

Clark has researched social media response to the August 2014 shooting of Michael Brown by a Ferguson, Missouri, police officer, focusing on the hashtag #IfTheyGunnedMeDown. She most recently was part of a team of researchers focusing on the use of #BlackLivesMatter as a form of civic activism.

Wendy Middlemiss, an educational psychologist at UNT, can discuss how parents can talk to children about the shooting and the deaths, including how to address things seen on television and topics talked about during school. Middlemiss has been interviewed about this topic after other recent shootings. She is available by cell phone at 724-977-3067.

More UNT experts may be available later to discuss different perspectives on the shooting. Check back for updates to this page.
