UNT faculty member will discuss social media and reaction to Ferguson grand jury decision

Tuesday, November 25, 2014 - 14:00

A grand jury has decided not to indict Darren Wilson, a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, for the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown in August. The decision, announced Monday evening (Nov. 24) stirred protests in Ferguson that police countered with tear gas.

Meredith Clark, assistant professor in the University of North Texas' Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism, is available to discuss social media reaction to the decision. She conducts research on race in media and digital and social media, and she has written about Black Twitter, a social media identity that focuses on issues related to the African American community. Clark recently wrote a column for Poynter about social media reaction to the video showing former Baltimore Raven Ray Rice abusing his fiancée.

Clark may be reached at 805-559-1839 or on Twitter at @meredithclark.
