DENTON (UNT), Texas -- Author Darin Bradley will visit the University of North Texas to read from his new novel "Chimpanzee." Bradley, an alumnus of UNT, was invited by UNT's Creative Writing Program so that current students can hear his new work.

The event will take place at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 (Wednesday) in the Forum on the first floor of UNT's Willis Library. A question-and-answer session will follow the reading, and copies of "Chimpanzee" will be available for sale and signing.

"Chimpanzee" is a dystopian novel set in the aftermath of the "New Depression," a time in the near future. Those who are unable to pay back their student loans are at risk of having their educations neurologically repossessed. The book follows Dr. Benjamin Cade, who is at risk of repossession, as he struggles to keep his mind intact.

Bradley is the author of two other novels, "Noise" (2010) and "Totem" (to be published in 2016), which form a thematic trilogy with "Chimpanzee." He received his doctoral degree in English from UNT and has taught courses on writing and literature at UNT, Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, and East Tennessee State University.

He is the editor of two periodicals, the "Bahamut Journal" and "Farrago's Wainscot," and has served in editorial capacities for a variety of other presses and journals, including UNT's own "Studies in the Novel." His short fiction, poetry and critical nonfiction have appeared in a number of both print and online venues.
