DENTON (UNT), Texas - The University of North Texas College of Music is ringing in the season with drummers drumming and tubas bellowing with UNT Sounds of the Holidays and TUBACHRISTMAS.

At 8 p.m. Dec. 3 (Saturday), UNT Percussion will celebrate the season with UNT Sounds of the Holidays: Twelve Drummers Drumming at the Margot and Bill Winspear Performance Hall in the Murchison Performing Arts Center, 2100 Interstate 35E, Denton. The family-friendly event will be a festive musical celebration of drumming featuring UNT’s Percussion Ensemble, 2:00 Caribbean Steel Drum Band, Percussion Players, Drumline and Afro-Cuban ensemble.

“There will be a fun mix of unique performances including drumming, singing and musical theater presentations,” said Mark Ford, professor of percussion. “We’re adding an international flair to holiday classics. And, you never know who might show up – maybe even Santa Claus himself.”

There will be a milk and cookies reception in the Horace and Euline Brock Grand Lobby following the performance, and a toy drive. Anyone in the giving spirit can donate a new, unwrapped toy beginning at 1 p.m. on Dec. 3 at the Murchison Performing Arts Center.

"We are proud to be partnering with WFAA's Santa's Helpers this year," said Megan Heber, director of communications and marketing for the College of Music. "This toy drive directly provides for Denton County families in need. I would love to see a toy donated for every seat in the hall – 925!"

Tickets cost $3 and can be purchased online or by calling the Murchison Box Office at 940-369-7802. Free parking will be available in the lot next to the MPAC, with overflow parking available in lots 4 and 26. View the UNT parking map here.

Nothing says “Happy Holidays” like TUBACHRISTMAS. At noon on Dec. 24, UNT College of Music tuba and euphonium players will gather at the University of North Texas Library Mall to present an afternoon of free holiday tunes.

“This event is perfect for anyone who gets a warm fuzzy feeling from Christmas carols,” said Casey Flancbaum, performance organizer. “You are getting a unique twist on a very classic performance. All of the carols we play are traditional Christmas carols, however most have never heard them played on tubas or euphoniums.”
