Sexual Assault Awareness Month events at UNT aim to educate, raise awareness

DENTON (UNT), Texas -- The University of North Texas and Denton County Friends of the Family will host a variety of events for Sexual Assault Awareness Month throughout April. The events aim to raise awareness and bring together those who want to end sexual violence. The full calendar of events is available online.

Highlights include:

Resource Fair and Clothesline Project

11 a.m.-1 p.m. April 4 (Monday) on the Onstead Promenade at the UNT Library Mall, 1506 W. Highland St. in Denton

Visit UNT's Library Mall to pick up a teal ribbon, learn about Sexual Assault Awareness Month and resources for survivors of sexual assault and partner violence, and participate in The Clothesline Project. The Clothesline Project honors survivors and victims of violence.

Sexual Assault and Intimate Partner Violence in Queer Communities

6-8 p.m. April 6 (Wednesday) in the UNT Honors Hall Conference Room, 1716 Eagle Drive in Denton

The UNT Pride Alliance will host a program to discuss topics related to sexual assault and partner violence in queer communities.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

5-7 p.m. on April 11 (Monday) on the Onstead Promenade at the UNT Library Mall, 1506 W. Highland St. in Denton

UNT's University Program Council will host a Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event, which is an opportunity for men to raise awareness about sexual violence against women.

Denton County Friends of the Family 5K race

8 a.m.-3 p.m. April 16 (Saturday) at Unity Park, 2200 Briarhill Blvd. in Highland Village

Take Back the Night

5-8 p.m. April 28 (Thursday) on the Onstead Promenade at the UNT Library Mall, 1506 W. Highland St. in Denton

Each year the Take Back the Night Foundation designates 10 locations across the United States to simultaneously hold marches and candlelight vigils in a show of support for survivors and unity in commitment to ending sexual violence in all forms. This year UNT is one of the organization's 10 Points of Light.
