DENTON (UNT), Texas – The University of North Texas has a new art exhibition currently on display titled "P.R.I.N.T Press: Five Years of Collaborations." The exhibition features collaborations between the Print Research Institute of North Texas, a fine art press at the UNT College of Visual Arts and Design, and accomplished artists possessing a variety of artistic backgrounds.

The exhibition is on display through Feb. 14 (Saturday) at the UNT ArtSpace Dallas gallery, 1901 Main St., Dallas. The gallery is open 5-8 p.m. on Thursdays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

P.R.I.N.T promotes collaborative printmaking through hosting projects, curating exhibitions and educational opportunities. For this exhibition, the featured artists worked with P.R.I.N.T to translate their ideas into fine art prints. The result is an exhibition in which a broad range of media and types of collaborations are represented. The exhibition will also include the inaugural work from P.R.I.N.T's Annual Printmaker subscription program, which couples UNT's Printmaking program with esteemed printmakers.

Lari Gibbons, director of P.R.I.N.T Press and professor of studio art at the College of Visual Arts and Design, said this exhibition shows audiences a sample of what P.R.I.N.T has published over the last five years.

"This is the only place where you will see at least one example of most of the artists with whom we have worked," said Gibbons. "We also took the opportunity to include a few prints that we don't typically show."

The artists featured in this exhibition generally don't work in printmaking; however, they were paired with P.R.I.N.T's visiting Master Printers, experts in fine art printing, in order to realize their projects.

"I see P.R.I.N.T as a crown jewel because it is unique for a university to have a fine art press," said Gibbons. "Most presses that are at our level of printmaking have a master printer in place, but we bring in master printers ourselves. Every collaboration is different because of the variety of experts that we're able to bring in."

Featured artists include Jeff Elrod, a UNT alumnus who creates abstract art that combines digital and handmade techniques; Nicole Hand, a professor of art at Murray State University in Kentucky, who has had her work exhibited nationally and internationally in more than 300 shows; Scott Ingram, a self-taught artist, who explores architecture and industrial design through his art; Jiha Moon, an Atlanta-based painter and printmaker, who was trained in painting in Korea and the U.S.; Albert Paley, who was the first metal sculptor to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Institute of Architects; and Michelle Samour, a faculty member at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, whose art explores ideas about the natural world through a variety of media.

The Master Printers that worked with the artists include Erika Adams, a multi-disciplinary artist with a background in printmaking; Ryan Burkhart, a professional printer, multimedia artist, educator and founder of Kong Screenprinting; David Jones, founder and executive director of Anchor Graphics in Chicago (1988 to present); and Jon Lee, a printmaker, papermaker and educator who currently teaches at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.

P.R.I.N.T's upcoming collaboration will partner Sedrick Huckaby, a Fort Worth- born painter and quilt artist, with Master Printer Brian Garner. Huckaby will first visit UNT on March 2 to deliver two different lectures. He will return March 30 – April 3 for his collaboration with Garner.

"P.R.I.N.T Press: Five Years of Collaborations" is free to the public. For more information, visit the UNT ArtSpace Dallas site or P.R.I.N.T's Facebook page.
