UNT sets record as 36,221 enroll for fall classes
DENTON (UNT), Texas -- The University of North Texas set an enrollment record for fall 2013 with 36,221 students, an increase of 385 compared to the fall 2012’s unofficial headcount at the fall census date (12th day of classes).
This year’s enrollment numbers include a freshman class that set another new high for SAT scores, a continuing increase in the diversity of the student population, increasing numbers of continuing students, and the largest enrollment of doctoral students in UNT history.

UNT jazz professor Richard DeRosa named chief conductor of Grammy award winning WDR Big Band
DENTON, Texas (UNT) – College of Music jazz composition and arranging professor Richard DeRosa was recently named the new chief conductor of the Grammy award winning WDR Big Band, based in Germany. The appointment starts with the 2014-15 season.
Last fall, DeRosa traveled to Cologne, Germany, and spent 10 days with WDR Big Band while the band prepared and recorded music he had written. The band, which was in need of a new conductor, chose DeRosa because he is an experienced and imaginative arranger who commands a wide range of musical styles. DENTON (UNT), Texas — Four students in the University of North Texas’ College of Information were selected as 2013 Spectrum Scholars by the American Library Association. UNT is one of only three Texas universities to have students selected as scholars, and has more scholars than the other Texas universities.
