DENTON (UNT), Texas -- Five days a week, Denton soup kitchen Our Daily Bread serves freshly prepared hot lunches to those who are hungry.
But how many people will show up on a given day? How many meals are needed? Now, University of North Texas economics students are collaborating with Our Daily Bread to design a statistical model that can better forecast how many meals the community soup kitchen will need to prepare each day based on historical data and varying factors such as weather conditions, unemployment numbers and more.

UNT forensic chemist creates analysis device for U.S. Department of Justice to detect fraudulent documents
DENTON (UNT), Texas -- University of North Texas Associate Professor of Chemistry Guido Verbeck has created a device for the U.S. Department of Justice that will allow investigators to analyze inks, paints, papers and other materials criminals use to create counterfeit documents.
The device is a re-creation of the original nanomanipulator Verbeck invented in 2006, which allows users to extract and analyze chemicals at the nanoscale, even within the ridges of a fingerprint.

UNT jazz bass professor receives Fulbright to teach in Latvia
DENTON (UNT), Texas – UNT College of Music jazz bass professor Lynn Seaton has been named a 2014-15 Fulbright Scholar and will depart in August for Latvia, where he will teach for the fall 2014 semester.
At the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in Riga, Latvia, Seaton will teach jazz bass and improvisation for all instruments, as well as coach music ensembles, he said.
