DENTON (UNT), Texas -- More than 4,000 students are expected to graduate from the University of North Texas during the spring 2015 semester, and many will celebrate at commencement ceremonies, which includes UNT's inaugural University-wide Commencement Ceremony at 8 p.m. May 16 (Saturday) at the UNT Coliseum, 600. Avenue D.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott will deliver the keynote address at the University-wide Commencement Ceremony, where all bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree candidates will be recognized together for the first time in a new tradition celebrating UNT's newest alumni for the 2014-15 academic year.
Additionally, UNT's nine colleges and one school will hold recognition ceremonies throughout the weekend that feature more traditional commencement elements in more intimate settings. Graduates may attend both sets of events.
The Undergraduate College Recognition ceremonies are scheduled across two days, May 15-16, and will be held in two different venues, the UNT Coliseum, 600 Ave. D., and the Murchison Performing Arts Center, 2100 N. I-35E. At these events, bachelor's degree candidates will be called by name and will walk the stage to shake hands with their college's or school's administrators.
Bachelor's ceremonies held on May 15 in the UNT Coliseum include:
- College of Public Affairs and Community Service at 8 a.m.
- College of Education at 11 a.m.
- College of Engineering at 2 p.m.
- College of Business at 4:30 p.m.
Bachelor's ceremonies held on May 15 in the Murchison Performing Arts Center include:
- College of Information at 11 a.m.
- Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism at 2 p.m.
- College of Music at 4:30 p.m.
Bachelor's ceremonies held on May 16 in the UNT Coliseum include:
- College of Visual Arts and Design and College of Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism at 8:30 a.m.
- College of Arts and Sciences first ceremony at 11:30 a.m. This includes Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Communications Studies, Dance and Theatre, Economics, English, Geography, History. Integrative Studies, General Studies and Social Sciences.
- College of Arts and Sciences second ceremony at 2:30 p.m. This includes International Studies, Mathematics, Media Arts, Philosophy and Religion Studies, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Technical Communication and World Languages, Literatures and Cultures.
The Doctoral and Master's Convocation will be held at 7:30 p.m. May 15 in the UNT Coliseum. In addition to the traditional commencement elements, doctoral and MFA candidates will be hooded by their faculty mentors during this ceremony.
There is no limit to the number of guests that graduation candidates can invite to any of the ceremonies; however guests are expected to remain for the duration of the ceremonies.

About UNT's University-wide Commencement
Starting this year, UNT will hold its first University-wide Commencement to honor all students who graduate in the current academic year. The event, which will be full of grandeur, will feature a processional, speaker and degree conferral. This year's University-wide Commencement also will serve as the soft launch of UNT's 125th anniversary celebrations. The university was established as a teacher's college on Sept. 16, 1890. As part of this new tradition, UNT has introduced new regalia to create a sea of green -- Mean Green -- for the University-wide Commencement and recognition ceremonies. UNT graduates will wear regalia prominently featuring the UNT green school color to clearly distinguish them as graduates of UNT and proud alumni. UNT's regalia differs by the type of degree a graduate earns -- bachelor's, master's or doctoral -- and includes different colored tassels to distinguish graduates by college.
