DENTON (UNT), Texas — Robert M. Citino, professor of history at the University of North Texas, has been selected to serve as a Visiting Professor at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Penn., during the 2013-14 academic year.

As a Visiting Professor, Citino will assist in teaching core and elective courses within the college’s Department of National Security and Strategy, and assist with other courses as needed. He will also conduct college-wide lectures and presentations, and lead faculty research and writing efforts to publish at least two case studies to support U.S. Army War College educational goals. Citino may also review the extent to which the college core and elective courses, and resident and distance programs, address relevant history and recommend ways of improving the curriculum; conduct faculty colloquia; and consult with the dean of the college’s School of Strategic Landpower to recruit external leaders and scholars of history to address the college community in panel discussions, lectures, conferences and other forums.

A UNT faculty member since 2009, Citino is a fellow with the university’s Military History Center. He is the current vice president for the Society for Military History and the author of nine books, including Blitzkrieg to Desert Storm: The Evolution of Operational Warfare, which received the American Historical Association’s Birdsall Prize for best book of the year in military history. Citino has appeared on The History Channel programs “Hard Target,” “History Today” and “Global View.” He served as the book review editor for World War II magazine for three years, writing the lead book review, selecting the remaining reviewers and editing the entire book review section for the monthly magazine. Citino also wrote the magazine’s weekly online column, “Front and Center,” for four years.

In addition to being a distinguished military historian, Citino has received recognition for excellence in teaching, including being rated the #1 Professor in the Country for 2007 on www.ratemyprofessors.com.

Before coming to UNT, Citino taught at Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio, and at Eastern Michigan University. While at Eastern Michigan, he was the Charles Boal Ewing Visiting Professor of Military History at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point during the 2008-09 academic year.
