From Friday, Aug. 7 through Sunday, Aug. 9, Texas shoppers will not pay the 6.25 percent sales tax on most clothing, shoes, backpacks and other school supplies priced at $100 or less during the state's annual tax-free shopping weekend. And while online retailers aren't required to participate in the sales tax holiday, the Texas comptroller's office has said that shoppers can expect online purchases that fit the criteria to be exempt from sales tax.

DENTON (UNT), Texas -- George Bowden of Fort Worth received the top prize of $3,000 and a provisional book contract with the University of North Texas Press in the Book Manuscript competition sponsored by the 2015 Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference.
