Executive chef brings fall food favorites to UNT student-run restaurant

What: Guest Chef Day at the University of North Texas’ Club at Gateway, a student-run restaurant.

Who: This year’s event will feature Chef Steve Meilinger, executive chef and food and beverage director for the Embassy Suites Denton Convention Center. Chef Meilinger will work directly with students to prepare a special gourmet luncheon.

Menu: The meal will include unique fall favorites such as lamb pierogi with roasted squash cream sauce and pumpkin mousse with ginger snap crumble. View the full menu at https://htm.unt.edu/content/guest-chef-day.

When/Where: Nov. 6 (Tuesday). Seating for lunch is from 11 a.m. to noon. The club is inside UNT’s Gateway Center, located at 801 North Texas Blvd.

Parking: Free for diners, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in the special event section of Lot 20 across from the Gateway Center.

Cost /Reservations: $17 per person or the price of one season ticket plus an additional $6. The ticket includes an appetizer, entrée, dessert and beverage. Cash, check or UNT interdepartmental transfers only.

Background: The Club at Gateway is an on-campus restaurant that gives students real-world experience managing their own hospitality venue. The restaurant is part of a hands-on course for UNT students offered through the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management. Students are in charge of everything – including menu planning, meal preparation, marketing, staff management and budgeting.

The restaurant is open now through Nov. 29 (Thursday) and serves three-course lunches Mondays through Thursdays.
