UNT Fine Arts Series welcomes local band Seryn to the University of North Texas campus March 21 for a concert by the dynamic six-piece band.

The 8 p.m. concert in the Murchison Performing Arts Center features the Denton-based band, which uses ukulele, accordion, bass, viola and banjo as accompaniments to the usual guitars and percussion instruments.

With concert dates planned throughout the U.S. this spring, Seryn’s UNT performance will come just after they play in Austin at SXSW, one of the largest music festivals in the world. The band, which has been described as folk or folk-pop, released its debut album This is Where We Are in 2011. According to the band, each member and their voice carry the same importance in performing “chilling harmonies.” Seryn was nominated for Best Folk Artist and Song of the Year for the Dallas Observer Music Awards and there is no shortage of praise for the band by regional press.

UNT students can receive free tickets to the performance by showing their student IDs at the Murchison Performing Arts Center box office window. Tickets are $20. Tickets for UNT faculty, staff and Alumni Association members are $10 each. Tickets may be purchased by calling the Murchison at 940-369-7802 or on the center’s website, www.theMPAC.com/tickets.
