DENTON (UNT), Texas -- The University of North Texas's ArtSpace Dallas will feature three College of Visual Arts and Design graduates who have achieved national recognition and received one of the Dallas Museum of Art's Awards to Artists. Xiaoze Xie and Rachel Cox, both represented by Talley Dunn Gallery in Dallas, won the Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Award in 1996 and 2010, respectively. Elliott Johnson was awarded the Otis and Velma Dozier Travel Grant in 2009.

"The artworks are diverse in their form and content," Tracee Robertson, director of UNT Galleries, said. "It's an opportunity to see a variety of very talented work."

Photographer Rachel Cox graduated from UNT in 2006 with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in photography. After graduating from UNT she went on to receive her Master of Fine Arts degree in photography from the University of New Mexico. Cox is an assistant professor of art at Michigan State University. Her work has been exhibited nationally at numerous museums and galleries including the Albuquerque Museum of Art, University of New Mexico Art Museum, Rayko Photo Center in San Francisco and others.

Mixed media artist Elliot Johnson graduated from UNT in 2001 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and drawing. Johnson exhibits his fine art extensively through Texas. In addition, he works in an artistic partnership called M+ Elliot Johnson, and their work is represented by Marty Walker Gallery in Dallas. He now works as a freelance 3D artist in Dallas and creates 3D printable art that aids his clients in creating product design and prototyping, advertising, animation and virtual environments and 3D printing.

The Clare Hart DeGolyer Memorial Fund and The Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund were created at the DMA in 1980 for the purpose of recognizing exceptional talent and potential in young visual artists. These funds seek applicants who show a commitment to continuing their artistic endeavors. Awards range from $1,500 to $6,000. Recipients are selected by a committee composed of DMA staff and invited curators, artists, critics, and patrons. The DMA awards include the Otis and Velma Dozier Travel Grant.
