Activities:Has received grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Texas Advanced Technology Program. Member of the American Society for Microbiology, the American Society for Parasitology, and the International Society of Developmental and Comparative Immunology. Has delivered more than 45 research presentations and published more than 40 papers. Recent research focuses on the effects of hazardous waste materials on soil. Holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Lynchburg College, and a master's degree in public health and doctorate in immunoparasitology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
