DENTON (UNT), Texas — A new course at the University of North Texas is bringing blockchain for business to the classroom. Starting this fall, business professionals and students can learn from three experts about the financial, technological, legal and governance aspects of blockchain for organizations.
The goal? To help professionals and newcomers understand how blockchain is altering the world around us, as well as how it can be utilized to improve processes, lower costs, increase security and speed transactions for organizations – beyond the cryptocurrency and financial applications most people think of.
“Cryptocurrency is just the beginning,” says Cijoy Olickal, lead instructor for the course and an experienced consultant with expertise in emerging technology adoption. “Cryptocurrency is like the email of the internet era and the first application that gets everyone interested, but the end game is to educate people on how to think creatively about blockchain so that they can formulate new systems and uses for it.”
Classes run Aug. 30 – Dec. 13 on Thursdays from 6:30 to 9:20 p.m. and are available at the UNT New College at Frisco and the main UNT Denton campus, which will simulcast the course. Different enrollment paths are available for UNT students and working professionals.
Course for students
Register: UNT students can enroll in the course through the Department of Information Technology and Decision Sciences in the College of Business. Undergraduate students can register for BCIS 4980, and graduate students can register for BCIS 5900. Different sections are available for the Frisco and Denton locations. Register at my.unt.edu.
