Wardell named dean of Toulouse Graduate School at UNT
DENTON (UNT), Texas -- Dr. Mark Wardell has been named dean of the Toulouse Graduate School at the University of North Texas, effective Aug. 1 according to Dr. Warren Burggren, UNT provost and vice president for academic affairs.
Wardell most recently was a professor of sociology and former associate provost and dean of the Graduate School at Wayne State University.
“Mark Wardell is an established leader with an outstanding background,” said Burggren. “He has been the dean or associate dean of two prestigious graduate schools, giving him the expertise and experience to lead the Toulouse Graduate School as we move forward in the university’s push to achieve its four bold goals.
“Mark brings substantial experience in curriculum enhancement, faculty and student recruitment, development of interdisciplinary and online programs, alumni relations and fundraising, as well as strategic planning and assessment,” said Burggren.
Prior to joining Wayne State as dean of the Graduate School, Wardell served as associate dean of the graduate school at The Pennsylvania State University and also as director of the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs. Previously, he had been the department head of Industrial Relations and Human Resources at Penn State.
A 1968 graduate of Luther College, Wardell earned his master’s from the University of Iowa and his doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
“I look forward to joining UNT,” said Wardell. “Dr. Rawlins has developed a clear vision for the university’s growth and expansion with the four bold goals. It will be an exciting time as we work collaboratively to enable our students to excel in an increasingly competitive global environment.”
