DENTON (UNT), Texas -- The Sky Theater planetarium at the University of North Texas has upgraded its presentation technology and is launching a Saturday matinee program geared mainly toward children.

The Sky Theater will offer a different matinee program each month beginning Sept. 7 (Saturday). The programs will begin each Saturday at noon, and tickets are $3 each (cash only).

The first matinee program is “Flight Adventures,” ideal for children 8-years-old and older. The program presents the science of flight through the eyes of a young girl and her grandfather who explore how birds, kites, planes and models fly. Viewers also will learn about the history and future of flight, and how NASA is discovering new and safer ways to travel with the help of engineers and aviators.

The planetarium’s presentation technology recently was upgraded to a new Evans & Sutherland Digistar 5 system. The Digistar 5 system offers improved visuals and audio, and allows the Sky Theater to better personalize planetarium presentations to any audience.
