DENTON (UNT), Texas - Just in time for the much anticipated release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the University of North Texas College of Music Wind Ensemble is paying tribute to John Williams, composer of the franchise’s soundtracks. The event, which also will feature music from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Indiana Jones, Jaws, Superman and other well-known Williams compositions, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 (Thursday) in Margot and Bill Winspear Performance Hall in the Murchison Performing Arts Center, 2100 Interstate 35E, Denton.

“John Williams is one of America's most celebrated composers,” said Nicholas Williams, assistant director of Wind Studies and conductor of the Wind Ensemble. “The music is familiar to almost everyone who will attend. For the students, the pieces are musically challenging and offer a wide variety of opportunities for musical expression.”

The Wind Ensemble will be welcoming faculty guests Julia Bushkova, violin, and Jason Bergman, trumpet, and fans of Star Wars and other Williams films will recognize some familiar characters in attendance.

“As musicians, we want to use our performances to share our experiences with each other and the audience,” Williams said. “The diversity of the music to be performed should reach everyone in the hall at one point or another. It's another opportunity to share our student's outstanding talent and dedication with our community.”

Tickets cost $10 for the public, $8 for UNT faculty, staff and Alumni Association members, and are free for UNT students. Students can pick up their free ticket at the Murchison Performing Arts Center box office. The public can purchase tickets through the MPAC box office at 940-369-7802 or visit the center's website. The event also will be streamed live at UNTMusicLive.com.
