DENTON (UNT), Texas – College of Music students bring to life the tale of the legendary libertine and seducer Don Juan in UNT Opera's production of Don Giovanni, a two-act opera with music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The opera will be performed in Italian with English supertitles at 8 p.m. Nov. 6 and 13 (Fridays) and 3 p.m. Nov. 8 and 15 (Sundays), with a special discounted performance at 3 p.m. Nov. 14 (Saturday) in the Lyric Theater at the Murchison Performing Arts Center, 2100 I-35E Frontage Road. UNT Opera Music Director Stephen Dubberly presents an "In The Know" lecture 45 minutes prior to each performance, offering insight into the opera and the time period in which it was written.

"Don Giovanni contains some of the most beautiful and memorable operatic music ever written, and we at UNT are fortunate to have so many outstanding young singers who are fully up to the demands of the roles," said James Scott, Dean of the College of Music. "Transcendent music will join with dramatic excitement for a magical music theater experience."

In this retelling of the Don Juan legend, Don Giovanni recklessly pursues carnal pleasures without moral compass. In the course of his debauchery, Giovanni lies to, cheats or manipulates nearly all of the characters in this comedic melodrama, and even kills the father of failed conquest. It is this murder that leads to his downfall, when the ghostly statue of the murdered Commendatore pays Giovanni a visit.

Tickets are $15-$35 for adults, with discounts available for senior citizens; students; children; UNT faculty, staff and retirees; and groups of 10 or more. The $35 tickets include dessert and wine. Tickets to the discounted Nov. 14 performance are $5. Purchase tickets online or by calling the Murchison Box Office at 940-369-7802.
