DENTON (UNT), Texas - Internationally renowned trumpeter Sean Jones will perform with the University of North Texas College of Music’s Grammy-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band. The concert will be at 8 p.m. Nov. 22 (Tuesday) at Margot and Bill Winspear Performance Hall in the Murchison Performing Arts Center, 2100 Interstate 35E, Denton.

“I’m doubly excited about this year’s One O’Clock Lab Band Fall Concert,” said John Murphy, chair of the Division of Jazz Studies. “It will not only feature exciting soloist Sean Jones, one of the top jazz trumpet players under 40, but it will be the first major on-campus concert by new director Alan Baylock, who has brought a fresh creative vision to the band, which has many new members this semester.”

Jones, who just released his seventh recording – im.pro.vise = never before seen, has performed with such jazz greats as Joe Lovano, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. He also served as lead trumpeter for the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and is currently a professor at Berklee College of Music.

The performance will begin with the One O’Clock Lab Band performing highlights from past recordings, compositions by Baylock and the premiere of a composition by sophomore Jazz Studies major Kyle Myers. Jones will then join the band for performances of his own music as well as songs arranged by Baylock.

“I'll never forget the first time I heard Sean Jones play live. He brings so much passion and humanity into his music that it's inspiring on many levels,” Baylock said. “I can't wait for the students here at UNT to have the experience of playing with him and hearing what he has to say, both musically and verbally. Sean's not only a world-class musician but is a dedicated educator and an inspirational presence. I'm thrilled that he'll be the guest artist at my first fall concert.”

Tickets cost $15 for the public, $10 for UNT students, faculty, staff and Alumni Association members. Purchase tickets through the MPAC box office at 940-369-7802 or visit the MPAC website. The event also will be streamed live at UNTMusicLive.com.
