DENTON (UNT), Texas -- Charred kale and caramelized shitake naan pizza, tandoori portabella burgers, mushroom enchiladas and more are on the menu for Mushroom Mania at the University of North Texas featuring Food Network star chef Maneet Chauhan.

Chauhan will host a cooking demonstration and judge an Iron Chef-style cooking competition among UNT chefs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on March 6 (Thursday) at Kerr Hall Cafeteria. The cafeteria is located at 1413 Maple St. in Denton.

Kerr Hall Cafeteria also will feature a special menu for the day designed by Chauhan. The cafeteria and Mushroom Mania events are open to the public.

The event is sponsored by the National Mushroom Council. Mushrooms are a sustainable and affordable food option that can be used to extend or replace meat in various dishes and add nutrition, said Ken Botts, special projects manager with UNT Dining Services.

"Millennials entering college are a highly diverse group driving a movement toward sustainable and international food choices," Botts said. "Chef Chauhan visiting UNT and working with our chefs will inspire us to use mushrooms in our menus and continue with our goal of providing sustainable and healthy options for students."
